Skin tags are small growths that can appear on any part of the body and become more common as you get older. Most skin tags are simply benign outgrowth of cells. These skin tags are often ignored, as long as they are relatively small and not in a visible location.
However, if skin tags grow larger, interfere in any way with your activities, hurt or appear in a highly visible location, often patients may choose to remove them. Dr. Chivers at the Canadian Plastic Surgery Centre can remove your skin tags quickly and safely with minimal pain and scarring.
Candidates for skin tag removal are people who are in overall good health and have skin tags that are bothersome in any way as listed above.
It is important to note that while skin tags are typically benign, occasionally other lesions can be confused with them that do require removal. Dr. Chivers will carefully examine any of your skin lesions during an initial consultation and discuss a treatment plan. Candidates for skin tag removal alone usually have one of the following:
The skin tag removal procedure is a quick, mostly painless procedure that is performed under local anesthesia. A scalpel is used to cut away the skin tag and the skin is generally stitched together with small dissolvable stitches. The entire procedure usually only takes 15 minutes at most and usually leaves either no scar or only a very minimal scar. However, oftentimes, stitches are not required and follow-up may not be necessary should a patient not desire it. Larger skin tags with sutures can be seen for a single follow-up visit.
Recovery is extremely quick for skin tag removal. Patients can usually return to work the same day of the procedure, unless the surgery was on a body part that is used for work. Patients should avoid strenuous activities for about 24 hours. Light dressings and/or Polysporin may be applied.
Skin tag removal in Toronto from the Canadian Plastic Surgery Centre is a simple, inexpensive and safe way to get rid of these unsightly lesions.
