Buttocks Lift

As we experience fluctuations in weight and get older, our buttocks also experience changes. Sagging skin, wrinkles or excess fat in this area frequently occur. If you are displeased with the way your buttocks look and are within the Greater Toronto Area, a buttocks lift from Dr. Chivers at the Canadian Plastic Surgery Centre may be an excellent option for you to help create or restore the look you want.

A buttocks lift is a cosmetic surgery to improve and/or remove excess, sagging buttock and thigh skin that has developed as a result of weight loss or loss of elasticity secondary to aging or other genetic factors. The skin over the buttocks is raised and tightened to make the buttocks appear less saggy, dimpled or wrinkled.

As with any surgery, good candidates for a buttocks lift are in overall good health and have not had previous complications from other surgical procedures or anesthesia. Additionally, candidates should have a stable weight and be able to maintain a stable weight after the surgery. Finally, most good candidates usually have one of the following:

  • Loss of skin elasticity in the buttocks.
  • Excessive or sagging skin in the buttocks.
  • Dimpled or wrinkled skin caused by cellulite.

Because the buttocks are close to the thighs, it isn’t uncommon that a thigh lift is actually the preferable surgery or would be a good complementary procedure. If this is the case, Dr. Chivers will advise you during the initial consultation.
Additionally, a buttocks lift does not restore or enhance buttocks volume.
Fat transfer may be required to achieve this. However, it is often performed as a separate procedure also to ensure a proper contour and minimize complications.

The Procedure

Buttocks lift surgery is performed under a general anesthesia. During the procedure, an incision is made across the top of the buttocks through which excess skin is then removed. As with all cosmetic surgical procedures performed by Dr. Chivers, great care is taken to make the incision scar as invisible as possible.

Follow-up instructions at a glance:

  • Dressings are changed the day after surgery and at 1 week.
  • Pain medication and antibiotics are prescribed for the first week following surgery. Any post-operative pain is typically mild to moderate.
  • Patients are able to walk the day after surgery.
  • Drains inserted during the procedure are painlessly removed at 1 week.
  • Incisions are to be kept dry for the first week. Patients can shower after that.
  • Patients are able to return to light duties at work typically after 2 weeks.
  • Ends of dissolving sutures are trimmed at 3 weeks.
  • Patients are able to resume full activities and to exercise after 6 weeks.
  • Immersion of incisions in baths, hot tubs, pools, oceans should be avoided for 6 weeks.

Due to the extensive nature of this procedure, the recovery time is generally a little longer. Patients who have undergone buttock lift surgery will be unable to bend forward during the first weeks of recovery. This will greatly limit your ability to engage in most activities and make it impossible to return to work for about two weeks.
Strenuous activities should be avoided for another month and swelling can be expected to last for a few months. Moderate pain is also common during the recovery period, which can be adequately controlled with pain medication. If you have any questions or difficulties during the recovery process, staff at the Canadian Plastic Surgery Centre will provide any assistance you need.
